Urban Unit Jobs 2026 – 53 Posts (Surveyor, HR, GIS Expert)

I've just spotted the latest job opening from The Urban Unit, and I am genuinely excited to tell you about it. Here's why: they're looking to hire 53 people for various jobs, and 50 of those jobs are for Surveyors with a minimum requirement of intermediate schooling. This is a great opportunity for those of you who have always wanted to get a government job but lack higher education!

The Urban Unit is a government department that works under the Planning and Development Board of Punjab. The department deals with (as can be gauged from the name) Urban planning projects across the province. This isn't a traditional government department but is more technology-focused and handles urban development projects in a data-driven manner. The last date is 5 March 2026, which gives you a little under 2 weeks to apply.

Let me go over each position since the requirements and jobs are quite different.

Quick Overview – What's Available

Position Total Posts Education Required Experience Age Limit
Surveyor 50 Posts Intermediate (12 years) 0-1 year 18 to 45 years
HR Officer 2 Posts Masters/Bachelors Hons (16 years) 1 year required 18 to 40 years
GIS & Image Analysis Expert 1 Post Masters/Bachelors Hons (16 years) 5-7 years required 18 to 45 years

📌 Organization: The Urban Unit (Planning & Development Board, Punjab)  |  🕒 Deadline: March 5, 2026  |  📋 Type: Contract Positions

Position 1: Surveyor (50 Posts) – Your Big Opportunity

This is the role I am most enthusiastic about, since it is open to so many more people. The role requires only 12 years of education – in other words, intermediate, FSc, ICS, FA, or equivalent. You do not need a bachelor’s degree. Experience? They are asking for 0 to 1 year, i.e., fresh candidates are more than welcome.

Now, what makes this role so interesting? The selected candidate will conduct field surveys across Lahore city and take geotagged photographs of property units using their phone. Yes, you read that right. They want you to use your own Android phone to collect the relevant survey data. The job will entail visiting the assigned locations, taking clear photographs with the right GPS tags, and then recording basic information about the property as per the given guidelines.

The requirements are simple. You must have an Android phone (the latest is better, but not compulsory). You must be able to travel independently across Lahore city. Previous experience with field surveys/data collection will be a plus, but is not mandatory. They need people comfortable with using apps on their smartphone, who can follow directions using Google Maps/GPS, and who are decent communicators.

Candidates should be physically fit to stroll through neighbourhoods and ready to work outside. Eighteen to forty-five is the age limit, which is relatively liberal. Eligibility applies to both genders.

My honest opinion on the job? This is a good opportunity for students seeking contract-based part-time employment, intermediate pass-outs who have recently completed their studies and want to work while they figure out their next step, or someone who wants to try to get their foot in the door with a government-affiliated organisation. The salary isn’t mentioned in the ad, but contract positions for surveyors usually fall in the Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 35,000 range, depending on workload and hours.

Position 2: HR Officer (2 Posts)

This is an office-based job better suited for professionals. 16 years of education required, which means an HEC recognised university degree of Bachelor's Hons or a Master's in Human Resource Management or Business Administration. 1 year of relevant HR experience is also required.

The job duties listed are quite vast and honestly sound like a tough job. Full recruitment cycle management, downloading CVs from job portals, candidate shortlisting, interview documentation, interview panel coordination, meeting minute keeping, proper hiring file management, employee onboarding, contract preparation, payroll coordination of regular and field staff, EOBI processing, etc., employee grievances, etc.

One interesting job duty related to public dealing they have mentioned is PM Citizen Portal complaint coordination, which means public grievance complaint management. They have also mentioned cleansing the field staff database of ghost employees, which tells me they are looking to overhaul their payroll systems.

Age limit is 18 to 40. This has stricter competition than the above roles, as only 2 seats are available, and you will be competing against HR professionals with formal HR qualifications and experience. If you are coming from a recruitment, payroll management, or HRIS system, highlight that experience within your application.

The salary range for this position will be between Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 70,000, depending on your experience and negotiation. However, since this is a contract job, you may not enjoy as many benefits as compared to a permanent government job.

Position 3: GIS & Image Analysis Expert (1 Post)

This is the most specific and highest position out of the three. You need 16 years of studies in Geomatics, GIS, Geography, Space Science, or a related field from an HEC-recognised institute. And the experience requirement is no joke - it’s 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in GIS/RS (Remote Sensing) and geospatial data management.

The work itself is technical and strategic. You’ll be ensuring complete survey coverage through GIS-based monitoring and remote sensing analysis. Meaning verifying census coverage through satellite imagery, identifying and mapping surveyed and missing clusters, correlating built-up area data with survey attributes, and preparing spatial dashboards.

You’ll also be supervising and guiding junior GIS staff and Research Associates for district-level monitoring work. The work involves district-wise enumeration map preparation, geospatial documentation compilation including shapefiles and KML files, conducting field verification visits, and preparing consolidated coverage reports.

This is basically a managerial technical role. If you have experience with ArcGIS, QGIS, remote sensing software, satellite imagery analysis, and spatial databases, you’re in the right ballpark. Prior experience with government census-related projects, urban planning projects, or land use mapping would be a strong bonus.

The age range for this role is 18 to 45 years. With the level of experience and seniority needed, I believe the pay would be upwards of Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 1,20,000 on a contract basis, but just an estimate based on what I have seen on the market.

How To Apply

You have to apply online at The Urban Unit’s official jobs portal. Go to their website, and you’ll see a careers or jobs option somewhere. There, you go to a particular vacancy, create an account, fill out the form, upload your documents, and submit.

You should keep your CNIC, educational certificates and transcripts, domicile certificate, recent photograph, and experience certificates (if applicable) handy. For a surveyor, you may want to mention the model of your Android phone and any relevant field survey experience in your CV as well.

Before applying, verify that your university is HEC-recognised by checking the official database at https://hec.gov.pk/

If your work experience is from a private company, verify its registration status with the Securities and Exchange Commission at https://www.secp.gov.pk/

The deadline is 5 March, 2026. Don’t leave it to the last day. Online portals get overloaded and have technical issues. Please complete this by 3 March at the latest.

What To Expect After Applying

The Urban Unit usually has a formal hiring process. If you want to be a Surveyor, you may have to take a written test on what you know about different topics and basic survey concepts. Then, you may have a practical test, where they’ll test your survey skills using some survey apps and try to navigate you using GPS.

For the HR Officer and GIS Expert jobs, the selection process will be more demanding, with written tests relating to the field, technical interviews, and possibly practical assignments too. For the GIS post, they may give you sample satellite imagery to analyse or ask you to generate a basic spatial analysis report.

Because these are contract jobs, your appointment letters will include the contract period, which is usually 6 months to a year, though it may be extended depending on the project needs and your performance.

My Final Thoughts

These are not permanent Government jobs with all the glories of life time Job - but even contractual work experience with The Urban Unit will count for something. You are working in a professional organisation, on real-time urban development projects, getting practical exposure to your subject, and making connections in the government sector.

Particularly for the 50 Surveyor jobs, this is a real opportunity for youngsters with mere intermediate education to make some money and get field experience. If you are sitting at home after FSc, wondering what to do next, just apply. Worst-case scenario, you do not get selected. Best-case scenario, you get a contractual job that pays your bills and gives you practical skills.

For the HR and GIS professionals as well, these jobs provide exposure to large-scale government work and look good on the CV. Even though contractual, working on province-wide survey and planning initiatives carries weight when applying for jobs.

Deadline: 05 March, 2026. Get your documents in order, the CV in shape, and apply! Don’t overthink it. Just apply.
